Harald and Warnecke are German champions 2008

Nicole Warnecke of BGC Uerdingen surprised the German minigolf world, by winning women’s cup competition at German championships 2008.

Warnecke proved her skills already during the preliminary rounds, playing the third best score of female players, average 23.00 on eternite and 32.40 on the relatively easy felt course.

Quite sovereignly the best female player of preliminary rounds was Nicole Piechotta, with a very fine game 29.80 on felt and 22.60 on eternite. Piechotta lost to Warnecke in the final match of the cup competition, receiving the silver medal.

Bronze went to Nicole Gundert-Greiffendorf, who defeated Gabriele Rahmlow in the bronze match. In preliminary rounds Rahmlow was the second best female player, with average 32.80 on felt and 22.20 on eternite.

World-class players Bianca Oberweg, Corina Reinisch and Tanja Pscherer were absent from the competition, because of work, studies or other personal reasons.

Men’s competition was dominated by Harald Erlbruch, who played the best total score in preliminary rounds, 27.20 on felt and 20.80 on eternite. He survived five thriller matches in the cup finals, with minimal win margins of 1 or 2 points only, to take another German champion title to his already massive trophy collection.

The second and third best players of the preliminary rounds, Alexander Junkermann (28.40 on felt, 21.20 on eternite) and Walter Erlbruch (29.80 on felt, 21.00 on eternite), fell in the first round of the cup competition.

Silver medal went to Marco Balzer, who was 7th best in the preliminary rounds. Bronze was taken by Lars Greiffendorf, who was 4th best in the preliminary rounds. World champion Marco Templin landed fourth, losing to Greiffendorf in the bronze match.
