Tap water in Finland is among the cleanest in the world, and actually contains less bacteria than commercially sold bottled water, according to the latest tests. Food hygiene in restaurants and kiosks is inspected regularly. One should naturally avoid mayonnaise etc. in buffets where the food has been standing for a long time unrefrigerated. In case of severe illnesses or accidents, the Tampere University Hospital provides high quality care. It is a good idea to have your EC Social Security card with you. Most doctors and nursing staff speak English. In case of less severe illnesses, Tampere has several private doctor’s offices and clinics. Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Most hotels will have a sauna. Sauna bathing is not considered a health risk, but if you feel uncertain about it, consult your own doctor. A doctor will be available at the minigolf courses during the tournaments, for small problems and for advice on greater problems.
